The Man

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya was born in a small village named Hanol in Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar district in the state He holds a postgraduate degree in Political Science from Bhavnagar University. He also has a Doctorate of Philosophy degree (PhD), on the subject of ‘Role of Gram Vidhyapiths (Rural schools) in Community Development and Future Challenges’, in the field of Political Science, from the Gujarat Institute of Development and Research, Ahmedabad.

Since his youth, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has had a penchant for serving people; and thus, has been very active in politics. He became a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and soon became a State Executive Committee Member of ABVP, Gujarat Unit. In appreciation of his intellect, skills and zeal to work hard, he was appointed as a leader of Yuva Morcha (Youth wing) and then the President of the BJP Unit of Palitana. Dr. Mandaviya also holds the record of being the youngest member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Gujarat, when he was first elected in 2002.

In recognition of his diligence, passion and hard work, Dr. Mandaviya was appointed as the Secretary for State Unit, BJP Gujarat, in 2013 and General Secretary in 2014. Later, in 2014, he was appointed as the Gujarat State Incharge of BJP’s High-tech & Mega Membership Drive Campaign which led to 1 crore people joining the BJP in Gujarat.

In a very short time, at the young age of 38, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha from Gujarat. He was also a part of several standing committees in the field of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Textiles and Environment and many more.

Working diligently to serve the people, especially the marginalised sections of the society, and uplifting them, has been Dr. Mandaviya’s only goal. Towards this, as an elected leader, he organised three Padyatras (hiking) stretching 123 km, 127 km and 150 km, with the title:

1. Kanya Kelavani Jyot Padyatra

2. Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Vyasan Hatao

3. On the path of Gandhian values

In 2004, the 123 km long Padyatra, he took on the mission of “Kanya Kelavani Jyot Padyatra” for the social cause of the promotion and awareness of Girl Child education in 45 backward villages of his constituency. Due to this initiative school enrolment ratio of Palitana for girls reached 1007 and was able to achieve a female drop-out ratio lower than the state average.

In 2006, he again organized 127 Km padyatra connecting 52 villages of his constituency with a goal of “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Vyasan Hatao” to address concerns of gender discrimination, women empowerment and addiction

For the third time in his political journey, in the year 2019, he took a 150 km long Padyatra organized in Bhavnagar District, Gujarat coinciding with the celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Pujya Bapuji (Mahatma Gandhi). Through the virtual platform, the Hon’ble Prime Minister joined the culmination ceremony. Hon’ble Prime appreciated this initiative and urged Members of Parliament to organize such padyatras

Dr. Mandaviya is well known for his intellectual analysis and thought leadership, which he also exhibited in his speech on the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, at the United Nations on October 20, 2015. He has travelled to several countries to explore and understand their policies, management techniques and governance models to help India grow at a rapid pace.

On July 5, 2016, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya was sworn in as the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Chemical and Fertilizers, in the Government of India. He was re-elected for a second term as an MP in Rajya Sabha in March 2018.

Being a strong advocate of strengthening women’s health, hygiene and education, he was awarded ‘Men for Menstruation’ by UNICEF on Menstrual Hygiene Day for his initiative of ‘Suvidha Sanitary Napkin’ (affordable and quality sanitary napkins) under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Scheme. Also, touted as a ‘Green Minister’, Dr. Mandaviya has been at the forefront of several environmental issues and worked toward a clean and green nation.

In May 2019, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya took oath as a Minister of State in the Council of Ministers, Government of India. He was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, along with being the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.

With his decisive and bold leadership aimed at the well-being of the people, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has been credited to have helped decrease the cost of Urea and More Than 10,000+ Jan Aushadi stores to provide more than 1750+ medicines and 280 surgical items and medical devices at affordable rates and reducing the cost of heart stent and knee implants. at affordable rates and reducing the cost of heart stent and knee implants. Additionally, he has not left any stone unturned to help and uplift the lives of common men, women, farmers and businesses.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya took charge as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare on July 7, 2021, with the additional responsibility of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. determination, and diligence in serving the people of India, Dr. Mandaviya has risen through the ranks from the grassroots level. Charting a challenging and fulfilling journey from being a young leader to a state-level representative to a Minister of State, and now as a Union Cabinet Minister, his commitment to serve the nation has been evident from his various endeavours.

As Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, strengthening India’s fight against the pandemic and improving the overall healthcare system, the Indian Express in its list of 100 Most Powerful Indians in 2022 placed him at number 25.

Following PM Narendra Modi Ji's mantra of 'Jan-Bhagidari & Jan-Andolan', he ramped up the country's COVID-19 vaccination drive overcoming all the challenges & odds. The world’s largest and most successful vaccination drive then created new records consistently including more than 2.5 Crore COVID-19 vaccinations in a single day on 17th September 2021. With Sabka Prayas, the nation achieved the milestone of 100 Crore, 150 Crore and 200 Crore COVID-19 vaccinations in a record time. Throughout the COVID–19 vaccination drive, approvals to new vaccines were granted at a quick pace and many new Made in India vaccines made their way to India’s COVID-19 arsenal. To win the fight against COVID-19, India has over the last two years indigenously developed or arranged nine (9) Covid vaccines to strengthen its mass COVID-19 vaccination programme. As of now, over 220 crore vaccination doses have been given since the start of the vaccination programme in January 2021, covering over 90 % of the eligible population with two doses, including the administration of over 22.35 crores precaution doses. Door-to-door vaccination campaigns were run to reach the unreached.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya was also conferred with the Economic Times Awards 2023 in the Business Reformer category for post-Delta-wave Covid management and overseeing India's mammoth vaccination drive with great success. He is also passionately pushing the Modi Government's Millet Mission.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya is also currently the Executive Board Member for GAVI - The Vaccine Alliance and Chairperson, Stop TB Board Partnership. In order to achieve PM Narendra Modi Ji’s goal of making India TB Mukt by 2025, Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan & Ni-Kshay 2.0 Portal. The Ni-Kshay Mitra Initiative has greatly strengthened India’s fight against TB. In line with PM Narendra Modi Ji’s goal, the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare led by Dr. Mandaviya is leaving no stone unturned to eliminate TB from India by 2025. The fight against TB is now a Jan-Andolan.

As the Union MoHFW, Dr Mandaviya has launched taken many important initiatives to ensure the overall health & well-being of all including prioritising mental health ‘Tele-MANAS’, strengthening the digital health ecosystem through eSanjeevan, Swasthya Chintan Shivir, hospital reforms, focus on eliminating life-threatening diseases, Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav under which more than 2.5 lakh people voluntarily donated blood, upgrading health infrastructure, increasing the number of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana cards, taking various national health programmes to the next level, etc.

Under PM Narendra Modi Ji’s visionary leadership & guidance, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya is working relentlessly towards further strengthening health systems at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels to build a future-ready healthcare system for the new & resilient India.

Dr. Mandaviya has been part of various bilateral visits and delegations to more than 55+ countries including Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Rwanda, Switzerland, Tanzania, UAE, Uzbekistan, UK, Uganda, Zambia, etc.

Dr. Mandaviya has represented India at various business forums including the Dubai Expo 2020 and World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland in the years 2020, 2022 and 2023.

Awards & Recognition:

1. Dr Mansukh Mandaviya was honoured by UNICEF for his contribution to women's healthcare initiatives and for distributing 10 crore sanitary napkins through Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

2. Dr Mansukh Mandaviya was also conferred with the Economic Times Awards 2022 in the Business Reformer category for post-Delta-wave Covid management and overseeing India's mammoth vaccination drive with great success.

3. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has been consistently featured in The Indian Express's prestigious list of 100 Most Powerful Indians for four consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025).
