The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers administers three departments – Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Department of Pharmaceuticals, and Department of Fertilizers.
To formulate and implement policy and programs for achieving growth and development of the chemical and petrochemical sectors in the country; and to foster the spirit of public-private partnership for the overall development of the above-mentioned sectors of the industry.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals aims to give greater focus and thrust on the development of the pharmaceutical sector in the country and to regulate issues related to pricing and availability of medicines at affordable prices, research & development, protection of intellectual property rights, and international commitments related to the pharmaceutical sector which required integration of work with other Ministries.
The Department of Fertilizers aims to ensure adequate and timely availability of fertilizers at affordable prices for maximizing agricultural production in the country. The main functions of the Department include planning, promotion, and development of the fertilizers industry, planning and monitoring of production, import and distribution of fertilizers, and management of financial assistance by way of subsidy/concession for indigenous and imported fertilizers.
